Today my Sisters, my Mom, and I all got together to exchange/make dinner for the month. This is probably the best way to cook. All you need to do is 1. Go shopping at the Costco and buy all the food in the picture below. 2. Invite 4 girlfriends to come and spend the afternoon cooking. 3. turn on some good tunes and rock out while cookin'. You do need to plan out an entire day for this for it will take a long time and you will get tired. (we suggest to leave children with their father)
The day started out at the Costco, I mostly just watched my mom figure out what we needed while I did a little food tasting. (Hey I got some GOOD wheat bread). After that we headed home for a fun day of cooking. Now if you know me at all you must know that Kelli in the kitchen is a bad idea. Be not afraid for I was being supervised by my Mother and 3 knowledgeable relief society women. I thought with all four of them around it was impossible to mess things up ..........Right?
Here is what we brought home from the grocery store. As all five of us stood gazing at this bulk of food on the table I thought to myself, " Are you kidding me? This is going to take FOREVER, Where do we even start? Maybe I could fake sick, take a nap, wake up and it would be all done"
I knew my mother would not let me get a way with that. I then rememberd that I was told once that I was a strong Edman women and I can do anything I put my mind to so suck it up and just do it (of course that was on Trek during the Woman's pull). So I pulled out some strength and we went to work on this HUGE task that laid before us.
Well, by the time we got the pot's heated up and our booty's in gear we were having a grand ole' time! We danced, sang, and laughed all day long. Seriously I felt like I was in a musical about cooking dinner. Mom was our "lead chef" She would walk around shooting orders and throwing food at us and telling us what item went with what dinner. We were really organized and everything seemed just to flow. We would cook about 2-3 dinners at once, on person would write on the bags what to do with the dinner when you are ready to cook. Another person would be cutting chicken (Jessica your the champ), vegetables, or rolling out dough. This is Nat making Ham and Cheese Casserole. She is also getting her groove on to some 80's music we jammed out to.
We all worked together so well and had so much fun. The only down fall was crying babies, but thanks to Pappy and Travis the kids were kept busy for the last 2 hours of us cooking dinners. Here Nat is making a Cheesy Rigatoni Bake and Katie is baking Beef and Cheese Quesadillas
Here Jessica is making Pizza Braids.
This is my Mom smashing something, I honestly not know what we put that in. But, Look how cute my wonderful Mommy is.
See, like I said these 4 great women in the kitchen with me and nothing could go wrong..... My Mom left to go do something and Katie told me to put 6 cups of cheese into the egg mix. So like a good sister I grabbed a big measuring bowl looked out the side and yep I saw the number 2. Perfect I thought to myself just fill this up 3 times and put all the cheese in with the eggs. While singing, dancing, and pouring I said to my Mom, who was now back in the Kitchen. "Wow, 6 cups of cheese really is a lot I think we are going to need more cheese I've only dumper 2 full things of this in and I need to do one more!" The look on my mothers face was priceless, it was as if she had seen lightning come from the sky and strike right in front of her. "You have put 2 full things of that in the egg mix? We only needed 6 cups!" "I know Mom, I have only put 4 cups in so far" "No Kelli, have put 18 cups in so far" I froze, "But Mom look it says 2 right here" "Yes Kelli but, 2 QTS means 2 Quarts not 2 cups!!" My sisters started busting up! I felt so bad I just looked at this pile of cheese that was overflowing the bowl thinking I cannot believe I just did that. My mom had to pull out a lot of the extra gross egg cheese from the mix. Needless to say, I was then sent to Natalie's house to get the Thyme that Travis left at there. Here is all my extra cheese that we could pull out. We now will be eating a really cheesy Crescent Roll Breakfast Casserole. Even in this picture I'm making a mess the cheese/egg mixture in my left hand is pouring out onto the floor.
Finally we have success! With only that cheesy mistake from me everything went perfect!! We had made 11 full dinners in 5-6 fun filled hours! What you ask what is on they menu? Well let me tell you what are sweet husbands get to eat this month. Beef and Cheese Quesadillas, Cheesy Rigatoni Bake, Ham and Potato Casserole, Souvlaki Marinated Chicken Skewers, Stove Top Chicken Casserole, Pizza Braids, Lemon Chicken, Teriyaki Chicken Stir-fry, Chicken Cordon Blue, Crescent roll breakfast casserole, and Sweet and sour meat balls! My husband is going to be glad that we gets to eat goods meals at least twice a week now.
We stalked Jo-Jo's fridge full of our dinner and we even had to have a cooler to help out because the fridge was so full. This is all of the 11 meals for one family. pretty cool!
Here are my Sisters! Don't we look so cute and this was even after 5-6 hours of cooking! Thanks girls for a day of fun and putting up with me singing all day! I can't wait until next month! And again I'm sorry about the cheese incident! Thanks for being so forgiving! Love you girls and Enjoy your meals!

How awesome! What a great idea and what a fun thing to do together! 18 cups of cheese huh? That is priceless!
Kelli you are so funny! I just updated my blog and it is no where near that entertaining! Don't worry about the cheese! We all love cheese and it will be really good! I love you!
That is an awesome idea. I am glad you had a fun day cooking and rocking out to some sweet tunes. Don't worry about the cheese incident, it happens.
I love you! Jess may win the super chicken cutter award, but you win the best blog posting award! I was thoroughly entertained! It was a fun day. Travis is super excited about the extra CHEESY breakfast casserole! Love you!!!
Alright once again I am a little offended that the Christensen girls were not invited to attend. Yes I know that would be a lor of booty shakin but double the fun!! What a great idea! I especially love your apron,,, you are a bit of a thief lady! I love it!
Great post Kelli, but don't feel so bad, you really only had 16 cups of cheese in the mix, and Trav showed his good side by being so positive and supportive. IN the one picture, I was putting garlic in the garlic press, not a fun job by the way. And, you did a great job, we just have something new to tease you about. Thanks for all the fun tunes and dancing. Love you
Erin, if your really interested in joining, we can work something out, let me know.
So, when is the next big cooking fest? I need in on the phenomenal idea. And no need to worry Boom, cheese always make things taste better.
Wow, Gammy is so proud. That is such a smart and economical undertaking. You're lucky to have such a nice big kitchen and fridge to work with. Every time I cook I just end up muttering "I hate my kitchen". I am ignored because the family hears it so often, but it makes me feel better and keeps me from swearing too much.
Um--do we need recipe blog??? Those meals sound yummy. Share please---oh never mind. I never cook for more that 2 or 3 anymore. (and I hate my kitchen).
That is such a great idea! My sister and mom are always trying to figure out what fun things we can do. We love blaring tunes too! Oh and the other day I butchered making grilled cheese sandwiches. I need to learn how to cook!
That is awesome, Jer told me you were doing this. Awesome idea.
Hey Kelli,
I just found your blog and think it is WAY cute! I am glad that things are going well for you!

i am jealous of your super fun cooking day. so i will propose this with my girls, buti would like to steal your recipes. (great idea for the recipe blog mar, but it should be a non-fancy easy practical recipes. thanks for sharing boomer. and 16 cups? wow. how you hold down a job i will never know...
That is such an awesome idea! So you just freeze the meals and then re-heat them later? I should do that on one of the days I'm feeling good, so that on every other day, when I feel like c-r-a-p, my husband can have something other than his gross frozen burritos for dinner.
I am so in the next time you do this. I have done it with my sister in toole but that is to far away. If we Price Match at walmart it will be even cheeper.
